The safety of this product looks questionable. Standard skewers or axles may snap under the additional weight. Would it be appropriate to modify or upgrade the hub, or hire a lawyer?
We've designed and weight-tested the frame to provide a 10-to-1 safety factor for the maximum load capacity (200 pounds). In terms of the axle, some bicycles will require a longer axle in order to install the bike pegs (included with every Companion Bike Seat) and mount the frame.
Due to the broad diversity of bike-axle sizes, we regret that we aren't able to include longer axles with the product at this time. However, we will be offering an installation resource guide identifying bikes that will require a different axle and also how and where to purchase the axles. These axles are typically no more than $5 - 10 and can also usually be ordered and installed at most local bike shops as well.
We have done our very best to insure our product is just as safe as riding a bicycle, and we really appreciate the feedback, as these are all great questions. We will try to make these addressed more clearly in our marketing and messaging as we grow.
If you have any additional questions or feedback, please send it over.
